My name is Kiri Callaghan, and I'm a hybrid author of queer fantasy stories that incorporate fae, mythology, and the macabre in a style that combines hygge* and humor.
This October, I will be making my traditional publishing debut with The Hearth Witch's Guide to Magic & Murder, the first in a queer adult fantasy series that combines magic and murder mysteries. Think Sherlock Holmes, but with mythological beings.
Fairytales and mythology have been a special interest for many LGBTQ kids, and I was no different. So much of the mythology I consumed as a child and teenager (Greek, Celtic, Scandinavian, etc) seemed effortlessly queer-normative, and while I didn't really have the word "pan" or "bi" yet, these stories were a comfort. Despite growing up in a religion that did not support who I was, these myths helped me see not only was my identity natural, but that my community had existed as far back as the days legends were born.
I wanted to bring the feeling I got from myths to a modern world. Queer-normative, inclusive, and magical. Stories where we aren't just at the center, but at every corner, in a world that we don't have to fight just to exist.
Happy Pride, my siblings. If you love murder mystery, slow-burn sapphic romance, fae/mythology, and tongue-in-cheek humor, we'll get along famously.
